- take
- In a take, or a recording, an attempt to record something. If you have to try again, then you do another take.
- talking head
- In film or video, a sequence which only shows a single person speaking, possibly direct at the camera.
- task analysis
- Identification of all the processes and sub-processes needed to complete a project.
- TCO
- Total Cost of Ownership, the estimation of costs throughout the life cycle of a product through development, deployment, training, use, maintenance and repair.
- TCP/IP
- Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, the protocol used to pass messages around the Internet and which in many ways defines the Internet.
- technical specification
- Document describing a task to be undertaken in terms of the equipment and techniques required.
- telco
- Shorthand term used generally for telecommunications company.
- telecine
- In television and DVD production, the machine that scans the film and produces a television signal from it. Now usually working digitally and in high definition.
- telemedicine
- Remote access to medical facilities using audio and, especially, video connections. The implementations can range from diagnosis assistance to remote participation in surgical procedures.
- telephony
- Ordinary telephone traffic, in which people talk to each other.
- teletype
- A teleprinter or telex machine, used to communicate with computers before monitors, or VDUs, were available.
- TelNet
- System for remotely controlling a computer as if you were sitting at its own keyboard.
- tender
- A document developed by a client about their needs for a project for potential developers to use to formulate their ideas for a pitch. Also referred to as the brief and can be a verb, to tender.
- testing
- The use of methods and procedures to check the performance of an application according to pre-defined criteria. Testing is often confused with evaluation. It can form part of evaluation, which has a wider remit. See also evaluation.
- texture mapping
- In computer graphics, adding a texture to the 'surface' of an object drawn in 3-D.
- time and materials contract
- A contract for work in which the cost is directly related to the time spent and the materials used. It is the opposite of a fixed-price contract where the fee for the job can only be changed by renegotiation.
- time code
- Information added to video and to audio for video, to uniquely identify the individual frames. This is a great help when editing. Time code can be displayed or even recorded on top of the picture in which case it is referred to as time code in vision or burned-in time code.
- time, cost and quality equation
- A method used in project management to define the relationship of these three components in relation to what the client wants from the project.
- time-based media
- Media that change over time, such as audio and video.
- time-lapse photography
- Photographic technique in which a camera remains fixed in position and records events in detail by taking pictures at intervals over a period of time. The film is then speeded up when shown, to allow people to see the changes take place in seconds rather than days. An example would be the change of a flower from bud to bloom to death.
- timesheet
- a record of time spent on each task for a project for all involved in its development. These are often electronic records that are amalgamated across the team to show the total spend across the project at any one point.
- TLD
- Top-level domain, see domain name.
- tolerance
- A term used in Prince2 project management methodology for the monetary allowance added to a phase of development that caters for the unknown or unexpected. It is equivalent to such terms as contingency money.
- transcribe
- To make a written copy of a document or communication.
- tree and branch
- A configuration for cable TV networks where there is no individual path between the cable centre (head end) and a subscriber.
- trimedia
- Media production where content is produced for radio, television and the Internet simultaneously.
