- Java
- A computer language based on C and devised by engineers at Sun originally for use in cable television set top boxes. It allows efficient sending of small applications (applets) across the Internet, which are then executed on the user's computer.
- JavaScript
- A scripting language that runs in recent browsers and allows more sophisticated control of pages and interaction than HTML. No relation to Java.
- JPEG
- Joint Photographic Experts Group, a standardized method for compressing still photographic images so that little is lost from the image with high rates of compression. Almost always lossy.
