A description is given of the way in which dual-band infrared (DBIR) imaging methods have been used for the detection and study of underground bodies, such as mines and archaeological structures, as well as in the search for aeroplane frame defects and for the inspection of concrete highways and bridges. The methods are described in which radiation of wavelengths 3 to 5, and 8 to 12, µm were employed. DE 94007126/GAR.
