Infrared Photograph: Waverley

Waverley Abbey

The contrast between the bright foliage and the cold stone is very noticeable on ruined buildings. This shot is taken at the ruins of Waverley Abbey, a few miles from where I live in Surrey. At one time there were hundreds of active monasteries around England but Henry VIII soon put a stop to that and, with a few exceptions, they fell into disuse and disrepair. The ruins provided great building materials for the locals for many years and provide us with some great sites for a visit today.
